Ülevaade
Labori teadustöö keskendub pinna- ja siselainete dünaamikale, lainetuse rollile rannikuprotsesside käigus ja rannikutehnika ülesannetes ning matemaatiliste meetodite rakendamisele neis valdkondades. Peamised töösuunad: • pinnalainete, lainekliima ja laevalainete uuringud • ekstreemsete üksiklainete (sh solitonide), lainekliima ja veetasemete problemaatika • lainetus rannikutehnikas (settetransport, laineaju, lainerünnak)• veemasside ja rannasetete Lagrange’i dünaamika • rannikute funktsioneerimise teooria, rannikupiirkonna haldamine • merelt lähtuvate ohtude kvantifitseerimine ja minimeerimine • rannas toimuvate muutuste, lainetuse omaduste, meretaseme jms kaugseire
Tähtsamad tulemused
2023. aastal: On näidatud, et ekstreemsed veetasemed ja nende korduvusperioodid Väinameres sõltuvad tugevasti tuule suunast. Erinevalt Liivi lahest järgib Väinamere veetase põhiosas Läänemere avaosa veetaset. Demonstreeriti, et kahe kaasaegse tuuleandmestiku alusel rekonstrueeritud Läänemere lainetuse omadused erinevad märgatavalt Põhjalahes ja suurte saarte varjus. ERA5 tuulte kasutamine ülehindab lainekõrgust Soome lahe suudme- ja keskosas ning BaltAn65+ alusel rehkendatud lainekõrgused on väiksemad ranniku lähistel. Määratleti lainetusest tingitud settetranspordi mustrid, bilanss, konvergentsi ja divergentsi piirkonnad ning üksikud setterakukeste piirid Suurupist Viimsi poolsaareni. Koostati Läänemere lainekliima arvutuste ajaloo, kujunemise ja praeguse seisu ülevaade. Määratleti Läänemere veepinna dünaamilise topograafia kõrglahutusega ruumiline jaotus satelliitaltimeetria ja mere geoidi mudeli alusel. Arendati välja ja valideeriti süvaõppe toel toimiv Läänemere dünaamilise topograafia prognoosimise tehnoloogia. Töötati välja ja käivitati uus meetod hüdrodünaamiliste mudelite ebatäpsuste määratlemiseks süvaõppe ja mitmete andmestike kaasamise kaudu. Näidati, et Sentinel-6 pakub satelliitide seas kõige täpsemaid veetaseme hinnanguid nii ranna lähistel kui ka avamerel.
