Recent incidents in the Baltic Sea highlight the fact that critical maritime connections have become significant targets for hybrid warfare as geopolitical tensions escalate. The likelihood of intentional attacks on undersea infrastructure is expected to remain high. Therefore, it is essential to implement accelerated protective measures and additional security mechanisms, in cooperation with the European Union and NATO. It is crucial to address potential security threats to the energy and data communication infrastructure that connects Estonia with its neighbouring countries. Additionally, we must be aware of the security risks associated with potential disruptions to these connections. This article focuses on the vulnerabilities of undersea energy and data communication links, which have gained increased attention in recent years. We discuss the necessary measures to mitigate these risks and prepare responses to possible threats.
