Ülevaade
Uurimisrühma tegevused on seotud erinevate taimse biomassi väärindamise tehnoloogiate teadus- ja arendustegevustega. Biomassi bioloogilise väärindamise suund on seotud pinnasebakterite ning nendest pärinevate ensüümide uuringutega ning uuringutega, kus uuritakse mandariini mahla pressijääkide fermetatsioonil sekreteeritavaid ensüüme (nt. Cerrana unicolor) ja ekstremofiilsetest organismidest pärit ensüümide uuringutega, mis osalevad lignotselluloosi lagundamises. Lisaks ensümoloogilistele uuringutele keskendutakse uurimisrühmas ka nende ensüümide struktuuribioloogilisele kirjeldamisele, kasutades valkude röntgenkristallograafiat ja röntgenkiirte väikese nurga hajumist. Uurimisrühm tegeleb ühtlasi uuringutega, mis keskenduvad lignotselluloosse biomassi fraktsioneerimisele ning puidupolümeeride analüütilise keemia metoodikatele ning uute funktsionaalsete materjalide välja arendamisele taimset päritolu polümeeridest.Uurimisrühma töö põhisuunad on seotud tehnoloogiatega, millest võidavad tulu tööstusharud, mis on seotud taastuvenergia sektoriga, paberi putmassi pleegitamisega, bio-tervendamise protsessidega, ligniini ning sekundaarsete biomassivoogude väärindamisega.
Tähtsamad tulemused
2023. a jätkati termofiilsetest organismidest pärinevate ensüümide uuringutega, milel on oluline roll lignotselluloosse biomassi looduslikes lagunemisprotsessides ning keskkonnatoksiliste ühendite tervendusprotsessides. Lisaks identifitseeriti terve rida ensüüme, mida saab kasutada tööstuslikel tingimustel (kõrge temperatuur) puidufenoolide veekeskkonnast eraldamiseks. Arendasime välja konveiertüüpi aurudestillaatori ning testisime seda Gruusias koha peal mandariini mahla pressijäägist eeterlike õlide eraldamiseks.
