Uurimisrühma teadustöö on fokuseeritud taastuvenergeetikas, raudteel, elektersõidukites ja telekommunikatsioonis kasutatavate jõuelektrooniliste süsteemide arendamisele ja katsetamisele. Põhilisteks uurimissuundadeks on muunduritele uute skeemilahenduste loomine, spetsiaalsete juhtimis- ja kaitsealgoritmide arendamine, uudsete komponentide ja materjalide juurutamine ning jõuelektrooniliste süsteemide kasutegurit, võimsustihedust ja töökindlust parandavate juhiste koostamine. Aastast 2010 on Jõuelektroonika uurimisrühm ECPE (European Center for Power Electronics) liige. ECPE on tööstusettevõtete poolt loodud organisatsioon, mis edendab Euroopas jõuelektroonika alast haridust, arendustööd, teadusuuringuid ja arendatud tehnoloogiate ülekannet. Uurimisrühm on osa Eesti teadmistepõhise ehituse tippkeskusest ZEBE. Üks ZEBE põhitegevustest on kodumajapidamiste alalisvoolu mikrovõrkude arendamine ning energiaefektiivsete ja süsinikuneutraalsete hoonete kasutuselevõtu kiirendamine. et
Research in the group is focused on the development and experimental validation of advancedpower electronic converters for such demanding applications as renewable energy systems,rolling stock, automotive and telecom. The keyresearch directions include synthesis of newconverter topologies, development of specialcontrol and protection algorithms, implementation of advanced components and materials, andelaboration of design guidelines for enhancingthe efficiency, power density and reliability ofthe on-market power electronic systems.Since 2010 the Power Electronic Group is amember of ECPE - European Center for PowerElectronics e.V., which is an industry-driven research network promoting education, innovation,science, research and technology transfer in thearea of Power Electronics in Europe. Moreover,the group is a part of ZEBE – Estonian Centreof Excellence for zero energy and resource efficient smart buildings and districts. The coreactivities in ZEBE are related to the advancingof the residential DC microgrid technology andacceleration of the transition towards highlyenergy-efficient and decarbonized buildings. en
